“Comfortable room”

I stayed at the Hilton Doubletree Southampton prior to a business meeting in the area. The room was very comfortable and clean. Excellent car parking facilities. Adequate breakfast, shame the fruit was slightly frozen. Attentive staff.

Normally a Double Tree is my go to choice for a good, solid business hotel - not just because of the warm cookie on arrival, but that certainly helps. the staff were very friendly, both in the evening on check in, and the morning on check out. There was a slight mix up with my room numbers, but the staff on shift were quick to sort it, and it was apparent it was a simple mix up, so not an issue from my view. The room itself was average. Nice large bed, and clean all over. However it was cold on arrival as the window was cracked open (in February!). The room was also incredible dark, with only two bedside lights and a desk lamp to illuminate the bed area....Oh and a 'fancy' strip light along the bed top. Where this review falls down sadly is in the restaurant. As i am not from the area, i often decide to eat at the place i am staying, however i wish i had ventured out. The restaurant was practically empty on my entrance at 6pm and i ordered a simple chicken ceased salad and fries after being left along for nearly 15 minutes. This took over 45 minutes to arrive! The chicken was a breaded breast cut in half, but was moist and warm. The leaves were oily and flaccid, with barely any cease dressing flavour - i assume they make their own sauce, but honestly, they are better off buying it in and it would be quicker and and tastier. There was barely any cheese, let along shaved parmesan, and of course there were no anchovies (not listed on the menu to be fair). This wouldn't bother me if i was paying £10, but with the additional chicken, this was a £20 salad! with a coke and chips, plus the non-optional service charge, a simple meal came to nearly £32! Id rather have spent that at Five Guys. Overall, not a bad hotel, with friendly staff, but nest to east elsewhere unless your pockets are deeper than mine!
